James M. Carroll, M.D. relocated to Houston, Texas in 2007 to further his focused commitment of caring for patients living with HIV/AIDS. Most recently, Dr. Carroll worked with Legacy Community Health Services, a non-profit, federally qualified health center.
Prior to joining Legacy, Dr. Carroll was Assistant Professor of Clinical Medicine within the Department of Internal Medicine of the Earl K. Long Medical Center at Louisiana State University (LSU) Health Sciences Center in Baton Rouge. In addition to his academic teaching role, Dr. Carroll also participated in the LSU Healthcare Network and served as a Staff Physician for the Ryan White funded Early Intervention Clinic. Dr. Carroll also served as the Director of Geriatrics at St. James Place Retirement Center.
Dr. Carroll holds a Bachelor of Science in Microbiology from LSU and a Doctor of Medicine degree from the LSU School of Medicine in New Orleans. He completed an internship and residency in Internal Medicine at the school’s Earl K. Long Medical Center in Baton Rouge. Dr. Carroll is Board Certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine and Certified by the American Academy of HIV Medicine as an HIV Specialist.
A third-term member of the regional board of directors of the American Academy of HIV Medicine, Dr. Carroll is also a member of numerous medical organizations, including the American College of Physicians, International AIDS Society, and International Association of Physicians in AIDS Care. He serves on a variety of national advisory boards and expert speaking panels. Throughout his training and career, Dr. Carroll has been honored with numerous distinctions and awards.

The Carroll Clinic is a new Internal Medicine practice serving the Greater Houston community. Currently, Dr. Carroll is the primary provider, however, it is expected that additional clinicians will join him in the future. Dr. Carroll is assisted by specially trained Medical Assistants who are bilingual (Spanish). Additionally, The Carroll Clinic utilizes the latest technology in all aspects of caring for patients as well as with the eClinicalWorks electronic medical record system.
